What is a Christian?

“What is a Christian?” …This question has generated more controversy and confusion, with more devastating results, than any question posed to man! It is addressed by well-meaning and sincere people who attempt to answer it. But sincerity has never been a measure of truth. A little girl was very sincere when she put her rain soaked cat into the oven to dry it off. She was sincere, but she was sincerely wrong! Sincerity, as valued as it is, can never be the standard of right and wrong. What is needed is a reliable basis for making a judgment. And the need of this standard is obvious when you consider the varied opinions of what it means to be a Christian.
